I worked as a journalist and photographer in Fleet Street for more than ten years. My stories and pictures were published the National press and magazines such as Life, Match, Stern and Oggi. You can see some of the pictures I took at www.dlpl.org
Following training in broadcast journalism by the by the BBC, I presented a number of TV and radio programmes, winning a Sony award for my series Sporting Partnerships on Radio 5 Live! I also undertook an increasing amount of PR assignments and worked as a special consultant to Biss Lancaster, now Euro RSCG.
After leaving journalism I returned to university, obtaining a First Class Honours degree in psychology from the University of Westminster and a doctorate from the University of Sussex.
This unusual background means that I fully understand both media demands and the importance of academic credibility in science based PR stories.
In collaboration with my team of scientists at Mindlab International Ltd (an independent research consultancy based at the University of Sussex of which I am Chairman) I devise and deliver PR oriented stories with wide media appeal. These are designed to be visually interesting as well as highly relevant to the brand message and the demographic for which it is intended.
A PR commissioned study for Cadbury’s investigating whether kissing or eating chocolate was the greater turn on. The story generated extensive newspaper, social media, radio and TV coverage three examples of which are shown below.
